Once past the Gateway Motorway On/Off ramps, space can be a bit tight, and depending on traffic density, randonneurs may consider using the optional detour:

This beautiful 100 km showcases the best rural scenery on offer in the central Tablelands. The ride starts in Atherton and meanders through Wongabel and East Barron Road before towards Malanda. It follows the ridgeline across Merragallon Road, giving stunning views across the Tablelands and to Mt Bartle Frere and the Great Dividing Range. It returns through Malanda, then continues onto Lake Eacham and Yungaburra. The ride heads to Kairi and Tolga for some flatter riding to the finish in Atherton.

Highlights - the top reaches of the Para Resevoir, Adelaide Gully Road and Watts Gully Road, and the narrow, shady, quiet roads around Cromer. Just a natural wonderland all day long, especially along the lesser back tracks!  ( 78% dirt and 1728m climbing. Time allowed: 8hr 5min)

This route for the fire season, between Dec 1st and April 30th, when the Heysen Trail near Checkers Hill is closed. ( 73% unsealed and 1681m  climbing. Time allowed 8hr 5min )

These are flat, gravel, maybe some sand, roads around Hopetoun. There are few road signs, so pay attention to cue sheets or use GPS or both. Don't expect any phone service. There are NO SHOPS, FOOD OR WATER. You're on your own, please be prepared. 
 
NB. Some roads will contain soft sand. It gets muddy when wet and you may encounter large pools of water.

Start at the Mandurah train station taking the farmland quiet backroads towards Pinjarra. The short sharp climb up North Spear Rd gives us great views across the scarp & Alcoa refinary. The old timber town of Dwellingup has several cafes, shop or the pub to cater for your needs.The next bit is the fun section with more down hill than up as you are coming back down to the flat lands. If you have time to spare, stop and look over the bridge at the longest conveyer belt in the southern hemisphere! DelPark Roadhouse brings you to the bottom of the scarp & Lakes rd with its flat road back to mandurah. Tailwind home will have a big smile on your face, headwind home & its a little challenging with no where to hide.
